Best Man's speech

Posted by the groom on Saturday 12 May, 2007 - Comments (0)

Traditionally, the best man speech is the first toast to the bride and groom at the reception. The speech usually takes place after the receiving line is over and all of the guests have been served a glass of champagne or other sparkling beverages or wine.

It is traditional for the best man to offer a wish for health, happiness, and posterity to the couple in his speech. The best man speech may be humorous, but should always be good natured. The speech should not be long and drawn out. Below is a sample best man toast:

“Here’s to Deborah and Andrew. I am delighted and feel honored to be part of their wedding. I am the one that introduced them at a fraternity party six years ago. I have valued their friendship over the years. They will always have a place in my heart. May their lives be filled with happiness. So please raise your glass and join me in a toast to a very special couple to wish them many, many years of good health, happiness and posterity”.

After the best man’s speech, the groom rises to thank him and then toasts the bride and both sets of parents. If the bride wishes, she can rise and make a toast herself. Once these toasts are made, then anyone else can rise and toast the couple.

The best man can always have a speech writer to prepare his toast. Another alternative is to purchase ready-prepared best man toasts. The wording can be changed to fit the best man’s relationship with the couple. Lines can be added or deleted from the toasts.

There are numerous online vendors who offer a wide selection of best man toasts. Some of the vendors will actually prepare the speech for you. If you feel uneasy about preparing a best man speech, you should not hesitate to use the services of a speech writer or purchase ready-prepared best man toasts.

You da man…you da BEST MAN! You’re probably the groom’s brother, his best friend and/or the guy that knows how to party like it’s going out of style. You’re the guy that has to lend a friendly ear to your buddy when the entire wedding planning process is stressing him out.

The groom has thought long and hard about which of his friends he’d grace with this title. It’s your prerogative to think about the title before accepting. You have a few responsibilities and some costs. The price tag that comes with being a best man is somewhere between $400.00 $$1000.00+. Your biggest expense will come with the stag.

Groomsmen's Speeches

Alright guys, you don't have to make a toast or speech if you don't want to but if you do keep it short and sweet. The content of your speech is to thank the couple for the honour of being in their wedding party and tell a story about either the groom or the bride depending on which one you're closest to. You can be funny but not insulting and feel free to say a few words about your friendship and what it means. For some ideas refer to the best man’s speech. You can toast the couple if you like and try not to go over 3 minutes.

For Groomsmen

Considering that the groom knows a heck of a lot of guys, congrats on making the cut. You’re on the team!! The down side is that the uniforms are tuxedos but I’m sure you’ll look very handsome.

Other then carrying a flask in your inside pocket and looking and acting sober, there aren’t too many jobs for you to do. There is one important thing to have on the day of the wedding BLACK SOCKS. Nothing worse then a guy in a black tux with white sweat sock….yuck!!
